I'll just comment that the differences in their personalities have always been perfectly apparent to me. I do have trouble remembering which name goes to which maid, but I've always known that the fun one has the ponytail while the responsible one has straight-ish hair.

Being one of those who treat them as being "basically interchangeable", I welcome this.

It's not that they don't have personality differences, I'm sure they do, since there are some people who seems to get it. But there's a single backstory for both of them, and their designs are also very similars due to them being twins. Most HC characters have personalities that pours over their backstories and apparences, but in their case, being twin maids is what's pouring over everything. IMO that's the main reason why we're having trouble differenciating them.

They start with a lot of similarities, and to overcome that with sheer personality is no small feat. To quote Jack M. Bickham, "you have to exaggerate tremendously; you have to provide shortcut identifying characteristics that stick out all over them".

I think the (first) thing that clued me in was the difference in the flavor of their sex-on-demand scenes.

To add extra differentiation, I'd start by changing their hair colors. Keep them as both shades of purple, but change it so that their hair colors are very noticably different from each other, in ways that reflect their names.

And maybe get rid of the dialogue where The Hero confuses their names. It helps establish his character, but it inhibits the players ability to keep track of which name goes to which maid, and it signals that the two maids are interchangeable.

I thing the main Problem is that there is not much reason to interact whit them in the current state of the game.
There Chat is always the same; The “Can't keep you apart” Joke gets old quick; you seen all of the sex-on-demant; after a wile you don't need to gift them more presents.

So why interact with them at all? Think the problem is even bigger for Renfeld and Pandora.
You will run into the twins when you in the Manor. But why even go the the upper floor of you home in Westcastle? And why even go to Southport when you not start the day there?

For Randi the problem is less since you have to go to the kitchen if you want to pick up the Gift packages. The same is true for Nerys talismans.

I thing it will help most is when they get more Chat text. I think it is a fun part of the game to talk whit Elaiya or Larelle to get there Comments on the last quest. I think that this feature is more important for the none party characters since there is no random banter.

For me Lilac is the more out-going and more dominant sister, while Violet is the more shy and submissive sister. That's how I think of them.

But at the same time:
- first scene - threesome with both of them
- second scene - threesome with both of them
- third scene - threesome with both of them
- Violet's first on-demand scene - scene with Lilac

With so many of their (early) scenes involving both of them it;s no surprise people see them as interchangeable.

I too think their Chats will help make them more distinct.
